Exhibition Design Process
Exhibition Design Process on the 3rd floor of the museum tells the story of Latvian design in the period from the 1960s until nowadays.
After World War II, despite the enforcement of Soviet ideology, decorative arts and design in Latvia developed more freely than fine art. The 1960s–70s saw the formation of a bold generation of artists whose creative work is characterised by laconic geometrical forms, rich colour, and experiments with materials and techniques. In 1961, the Department of Textile Art and the Department of Industrial Art were opened at the Art Academy of Latvia. These events mark a new turn in Latvian decorative arts and design development, explored at the exhibition Design process on the 3rd floor of the museum.
