The Art Museum RIGA BOURSE have received the annual ICOM Latvia award for successfully implemented international cooperation
On June 3, as part of the Latvian Museum Day, in the Eduards Veidenbaums Museum "Kalāči", The Art Museum RIGA BOURSE was presented with the annual award of the National Committee of the International Council of Museums ICOM Latvia for successfully implemented international cooperation in the past year.
The award was given to the exhibition "India – The Land of Tradition", which took place at The Art Museum RIGA BOURSE from January 14 to April 8, 2023. Curator of the exhibition – Kristine Miller. The project was created with the support of The Cultural Capital Foundation and the Embassy of India in Stockholm.
At the time of the award presentation, the chairman of the board of ICOM Latvia, Klāvs Zariņš, emphasized:
The exhibition brought up a range of both nationally and internationally important issues, inviting us to reevaluate our own Eurocentric perspective. At the same time, inviting us to talk about decolonization processes and evaluate the work of museum collections, and the consequences left by Soviet colonialism.
Latvian National Museum of Art has more than 500 works from India in its collection. It has become the largest collection of Indian art in the Baltic States. In collaboration with Eka Archiving Services, an Indian research institution in New Delhi, the collection was extensively researched and fully contextualized.
