From Life to Arts
To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Thailand–Latvia diplomatic relations, an exhibition From Life to Arts: The Reflections of Thai Communities through Local Thai Contemporary Artists and Textiles is on view from 22 April until 26 June 2022.
Thailand is a land of cultural diversity with a population of around 70 million. Travelling from the northern part to the southern part of the country, everyone can experience rich and diverse cultures, beliefs, and unique identities.
People-to-people contact between Thailand and Latvia is an important part of the close relations between the two countries, with almost 10,000 Latvian tourists visiting Thailand each year as well as a number of Latvians living in Thailand and Thais living and studying in Latvia.
The Royal Thai Embassy in Stockholm together with the Art Museum RIGA BOURSE proudly present the exhibition depicting cultural authenticity from different parts of Thailand through paintings and textiles. The exposition comprises two parts: artworks from Thai contemporary artists and textiles of Thailand. Four Thai contemporary artists Angkrit Ajchariyasophon, Jehabdulloh Jehsorhoh, Tanupon En-on and Jakkai Siributr through their works reflect on past year’s struggles, inspirations from the culture, nature and lifestyles of local communities and their views on what is Thainess. The Thai textiles on display are from the north, north-eastern, south, and central part of Thailand and showcase various silk weaving and colouring techniques, as well as a variety of gorgeous patterns.
