Latvian National Museum of Art presents Harmonious Collision, the first retrospective exhibition of the internationally recognized contemporary fashion label FYODOR GOLAN, which will be held at the Museum Storage Facility in Riga (Pulka iela 8) from 14 June to 27 September 2024.

Founded in London in 2009 by designers Fyodor Podgorny from Latvia and Golan Frydman from Israel, the brand FYODOR GOLAN has gained widespread recognition and resonance in the fashion industry and international press thanks to the duo’s contemporary baroque aesthetic.
The concept of the exhibition is based on the notion of a harmonious collision – an expressive force, originating from a creative clash of seemingly incompatible personalities, ideas, shapes, colours and textures in the brand’s maximalist approach.
The more than 120 garments and accessories on display allow visitor to trace the evolution of FYODOR GOLAN’s artistic endeavour from Fyodor’s personal point of view from 2009 to 2022. Disrupting the linear chronology, the exhibits are grouped into thematic clusters. Digital Romance explores the metamorphoses of love in the age of social networks, State of Emergency raises the challenges posed by the climate crisis, Balancing Act traces the search for inner harmony at the epicentre of the fashion industry and conjures up a contemporary sacred aesthetic beyond the confines of traditional religions.
In the central part of the exhibition, FYODOR GOLAN’s most spectacular eveningwear interacts with masterpieces of Western sculpture in the Forest of Sculptures, an exhibition of antique and Renaissance sculpture, exposing the creative tension between the artistic canon and the vibrancy of contemporary fashion.
The diverse themes of the retrospective are brought together in the Cabinet of Curiosities – a curated web of associations, bringing together the impressions, artefacts and techniques that have contributed to the emergence and evolution of FYODOR GOLAN’s aesthetic. The Cabinet also gives Fyodor a chance to rediscover his connection to Latvia’s cultural heritage in dialogue with artworks and objects from Latvian museum collections.
Harmonious Collision is an interdisciplinary contemporary cultural project that exposes the Latvian presence in the global design processes.
