Innovations in the museum

Latvian Museum Association has granted the video series “The Story of One Painting” organized by the Latvian National Museum of Art in collaboration with the law office “Ellex Kļaviņš” the title of the innovation project of 2018.

“The Story of One Painting” is an education project that reflects works included in the permanent exhibition of the museum, created between the 1980s and 1990s. This is a period of significant changes in Latvian culture when artists looked for ideas in politics, ecology, and social life. The interviews with the authors of the paintings offer an unmediated representation of the context in which these artworks were created. The personal stories of the authors allow peeking behind the scenes and discovering the inspiration of the creative process, as well as to look into the emotional experience of the author that is usually hidden from the eye of the viewer.

The material is broadly accessible – the videos are published at the museum homepage and on various internet platforms and have a separate section on the museum's mobile application. Thus, the material advertises the permanent exhibition of the museum and allows broadening the visitor experience at the time of their visit to the museum.

The title “Museum innovation project 2018” is awarded to a museum product or service that interprets the museum collection and enriches the visitor experience with the help of innovative technologies. The jury committee evaluated how the use of technologies has influenced the target user's knowledge, involvement, and feelings.
