On April 4, museums around the world mark Slow Art Day by inviting visitors to explore artworks slowly and find joy in mindful looking.

Due to the state of emergency announced by the Latvian government, the Latvian National Museum of Art will be closed till 14 April 2020.

Walking up to a painting, taking a step back… Sustained observation of an artwork can provide new insights. Prerequisite knowledge of art or art history is not required, only the desire to spend time looking at work of art. The participants will explore five artworks from the exhibition "Kabuki 歌舞伎. The 19th Century Japanese Ukiyo-e" and the permanent collection, spending five to ten minutes with each piece. Afterwards, there will be a chance to share imperssions and observations while participating in a discussion led by museum educator.
