We would like to inform you that in response to the state of emergency, announced by the government, the Latvian National Museum of Art is open only to individual visitors.

The Latvian National Museum of Art, Art Museum RIGA BOURSE, Museum of Decorative Arts and Design, Museum of Romans Suta and Aleksandra Beļcova and Sculpture Exhibition in the Museum Storage “Sculpture Forest. Antique and Renaissance Plaster Cast Exhibition” is open only to individual visitors. 

 

The safety of our employees and visitors is our priority. The suspension of the face to face educational work in the Latvian National Museum of Art and the cancellation of the planned events are part of the safety measures, in response to the situation in the country caused by Covid-19. Information about a safe visit to the museum here.

 

We have ensured that everyone can discover and explore museum exhibitions and expositions both online and in person! For an individual on-site visit to the museum:

 

 

Latvian National Museum of Art

  • Mobile app. The mobile app allows everyone to discover and learn about the museum’s exhibitions and discover the unique architecture of the building. Application involves into an exciting story, revealing the details and nuances. Routes are enriched with audio guides of art works, augmented reality and interactive game elements.  Currently, the app also has a new route - Art Restoration in the Museum.

 

Museum of Decorative Arts and Design 

  • The free guidebook "The Style of Madernieks" introduces the work of Jūlijs Madernieks and highlights the main areas of his activity: creation of ornaments, nature studies, applied graphics, interior design, furniture design.

  • During the exhibition, in the 2nd floor lobby, there is a "Madernieka studio" for families and students, where you can try to create and compose an ornament. Both adults and children can glue, draw and try Madernieks’ fonts. Surfaces and objects are disinfected after each visitor.

 

Forest of Sculptures - Antique and Renaissance Plaster Cast Exhibition

  • Virtual tour via mobile device. Take a walk in the Sculpture Forest! Visitors to the exhibition of antique and renaissance sculptures can get acquainted with the stories of each copy of the sculpture, using a virtual guide. The virtual guide introduces the history of the plaster cast collection, the concept of the exhibition and the art periods. It tells stories of each of the ancient Greek, Ancient Roman and Italian Renaissance sculptures in the exhibition in an interactive and exploratory way.

 

Museum of Romans Suta and Aleksandra Beļcova

  • Romans Suta is one of the central figures of the modernist era in Latvia - a unique, creative person, whose erudition, extraordinary judgment, artistic potential and inexhaustible enthusiasm surprised contemporaries. Audio stories about the artist are available here.

Latvian National Museum of Art

  • Video stories “Art Restoration at the Museum” provides an opportunity to learn about the role of restoration in the museum, the ethical considerations faced by restorers, the specifics of storing and preserving works made in experimental techniques, as well as several other aspects related to art restoration.

  • Video series “The Story of One Painting ll” about artworks, which can be seen in the permanent exhibition “Latvian art 1985–2000”. The authors themselves tell stories about their works, revealing a direct and immediate idea about the context in which the artwork was created.

  • Video series ”The Story of a Photographer” in 8 mini-series tells stories about the art photographs of the second half of the 20th century and the 21st century, which are included in the museum's permanent exhibition, and their authors. The LNMA photography collection focuses on the works of masters whose names became widely known in the 1980s and especially in the 1990s - after the restoration of Latvia's independence.

Art Museum RIGA BOURSE

  • Coloring pages: World cultures. We invite you to get to know various world cultures, to which the Art Museum RIGA BOURSE is connected, by painting works of art. Become an artist and add new backgrounds and details to an artwork.

  • #Looking for Moses. Get to know and discover the collection of plaster casts! Through video and photo stories, find out how the collection of plaster casts and the exposition "Sculpture Forest" were created. The main character of the stories is Michelangelo's "Moses" sculpture, which is one of the world-famous copies of sculptures on display in the "Sculpture Forest".

 

Museum of Decorative Arts and Design

  • The MDAD collection contains the best samples of modern design. Among them are also the works of porcelain artists Skuja Braden, which surprises not only with their artifice, but also with their professionalism.
