Žanis Lipke Memorial in collaboration with Romans Suta and Aleksandra Belcova museum issued catalogue of an exhibition “Riga Ghetto in Drawings by Aleksandra Belcova”
The new publication includes research articles of Natalja Jevsejеva and historian Guna Vainovska. The publication gives an overview of not only the biography and artistic activity of Aleksandrа Belcovа, but also marks the beginning of the Second World War and the extermination of the Jews in Riga.
Catalogue contains reproductions of works exhibited at the Memorial. Several drawings, unfinished sketches and oil paintings show that the artist felt a great deal of compassion, and the works created, depicting the scenes of the massacre of Jews and the ghetto Belcova saw, were her response to the surrounding events. The catalogue is trilingual – in Latvian, English and Russian.
