The Art Museum Youth Club is a programme for teens (15+) who are interested in better acquainting themselves with museums, art, and design, and who feel the call to actively participate in the development of the Latvian National Museum of Art's offerings.
The museum-based programme was launched in 2017 with 20 participants. Since then, youth have explored the expositions of the Latvian National Museum of Art, the Art Museum RIGA BOURSE, the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design, Romans Suta and Aleksandra Beļcova Museum, and Arsenāls Exhibition Hall. Through interactions with the museum staff, such as collection managers, curators, researchers, and conservator-restorers, participants have learnt about the staff's daily routine as well as collection management, while also receiving the opportunity to participate in workshops organized by artists and designers. In addition to the courses and lectures led by museum specialists, the first youth club participants had the opportunity to work together with graphic designer Maija Rozenfelde in creating a visual identity for the Youth Club.
This season, the Youth Club consists of 24 energetic, motivated, and creative people with a vision of how to make the Art Museum's four museums and exhibition hall even more attractive to the young audience. They describe the Latvian National Museum of Art and its collections from their perspective, recommend suitable events, organize workshops, run tours, and prepare a very special guide for their peers.
